"Life Data Labs – Brief History
Life Data Labs, Inc. is a family owned business and has been in existence for thirty years. Dr. Frank Gravlee, the founder of Life Data, has a background in equine medicine. He graduated from Auburn University School of Medicine and practiced veterinary medicine several years before attending graduate school at MIT. During a three-year residency in nutritional pathology he received a masters degree in nutritional biochemistry and intermediary metabolism. Prior to the formation of Life Data Labs, Inc. he spent six years in the field of nutritional and clinical pathology. Life Data Labs was established in 1973 with the purpose of determining equine nutritional deficiencies by performing laboratory tests. Dr. Gravlee then developed individualized feeding programs to correct the deficiencies or excesses and re-tested every six months to one year to adjust or “fine tune” the exact amounts of nutrients needed.
Farrier's Formula is based on 10 years of research and has been on the market for over 20 years. It is a nutritional supplement that contains guaranteed nutrients necessary for healthy dermal tissues. It is important to provide a balanced nutritional supplement that covers the requirements for dermal tissues, rather than only one or two ingredients such as biotin or methionine, which are currently being marketed individually by some companies. The balanced nutrients produce protein cross links that allow the horse to produce strong hooves. It also helps in growth, old age, and improves the skin and coat condition. You can expect to see improvement in the skin and hair in two to four weeks, with a deeper more richly colored coat. You can expect to see a new band of thicker, denser hoof growth in 8 to 10 weeks. The horse will have stronger, thicker hoof walls that will hold shoes with more ease and thicker soles that will not bruise easily. Farrier's Formula is available in 11 lb, 22 lb, and 44 lb pails and an 11 lb nitrogen-flushed vacuum-sealed refill bag.
Farrier’s Formula was the first hoof supplement to be tested and marketed. It is the only nutritional product of its kind that has both specific field research and independent university research standing behind the name. It was a challenging product to market because it was the first of it's kind and more specifically, because of the lack of information in the horse industry that one could improve the hoof quality through nutrition. During the early years of marketing the product Dr Gravlee received calls daily from customers who wanted to know "how often to rub those little green pellets on the foot" We now find this comical, but the quote emphasizes how dramatically Dr. Gravlee helped revolutionize the industry with the approach of "feeding the hoof".
From the beginning, Dr. Gravlee has been adamant about using the highest quality ingredients and demanding that Farrier’s Formula be packaged in airtight, light resistant, and resealable containers in order to maintain quality and freshness. In addition to the pails, Life Data Labs now packages products in a nitrogen-flushed, vacuum-sealed refill bag that insures product freshness and potency. Dr. Gravlee has also been a pioneer in consumer education and product awareness of the importance of product freshness. He has been active in pursuing legislation that will require all animal nutrition companies to print lot numbers and "best if used by" dates directly on their containers. Life Data Labs was among the first in the industry to offer this guarantee of freshness.
Life Data has evolved from a modest one-product, single market company into a multi-million dollar manufacturer of an entire line of animal products, ranging from small animal skin and coat supplements to The Right Step hoof conditioner and Life Data Hoof Disinfectant both of which provide a scientific approach to external hoof care. Currently Life Data Labs has undergone a million-dollar plant expansion while maintaining top- notch quality control. Using the latest manufacturing techniques, the new milling facilities allow Life Data to continue to manufacture and market the outstanding products that have come to be a part of its reputation. In addition, we became an ISO 9001 certified company. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) was established in 1947 and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The ISO organization promotes the development of standardization and related world activities to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services. This kind of certification is recognized worldwide as a mark of excellence. Life Data Labs is one of the first feed supplement manufacturers of its kind to attain the certification and joins only 10 percent of U.S. manufacturing operations that have registered their Quality Management System to ISO 9001: 1994.
Life Data Labs’ Farrier’s Formula is the number one recommended product by farriers in the United States and has been the number one product for eleven consecutive years according to the American Farrier’s Journal. Marketed worldwide, approximately one-third of sales are international. Life Data Labs ships to the UK, European Community, Canada, Mexico, Middle East, South America, China, Israel, and Japan."
