ReRun - Adopt a Thoroughbred
ReRun gives ex-racehorses a second chance at a productive life in new homes by first evaluating temperaments, talents and physical capabilities and then matching the animals to new owners. They assist in the re-training and recuperation process, and utilize the help of volunteers and paid personnel skilled in horsemanship.
Only horses with a good chance of placement are accepted into the program; animals with injuries so severe as to make a future under tack improbable or those who don't possess the temperament necessary to adapt to a new lifestyle are passed over. In these instances, ReRun makes every attempt to match even these animals to new owners, even though we have no physical contact with them.
The people behind ReRun feel that this is a project that the entire Thoroughbred industry--race tracks, farms, owners, trainers and jockeys--should support. It benefits everyone in one way or another. It promotes humane treatment of our athletes, giving owners an alternative to running sore horses because they don't know what else to do with them. That in turn promotes safety for our riders and a better image for our sport, not to mention a brighter future for the horses themselves."
